Directions

Getting here can be an adventure! We recommend following these directions exactly. There is a very good chance you will not have cell service for some or most of the trip, so plan accordingly and have these directions printed or saved on your device. You can get your trip started with GPS – put in “Harman” to avoid going through Dolly Sods Wilderness unprepared (see “from north/east” below)

From I-79 (best route from Charleston WV or Pittsburgh PA)

Take exit 99 to get onto 33E towards Buckhannon. You’ll stay on 33E but will turn off of the highway after about 30 miles, the second exit towards Elkins. Follow signs for 33E all the way through Elkins. Once that leaves town and turns into another highway, you’re about 20 miles from Harman.

In Harman, take a left at the fork for 32N. Drive 2.2ish miles and turn left. This is Snyder Rd, but there is no street sign, but across the street is a sign for Harman Mountain Campground. Turn onto it.

You’ll immediately cross over a bridge and see a few turns & driveways but stay straight. Continue up the hill for half a mile. Our driveway is on the right (third if you count the two at the bottom, first once you’re up the hill a ways). It is a hairpin right onto a gravel road. If you miss it, you’ll immediately come to a wide open intersection at Old Mill Road – pull a U-turn and head back where you came. You’ll see our driveway immediately. There’s a tiny sign that says McKean. That’s us!

There is a fork in the driveway about 1/2 mile up — straight will get you to the cabin, left goes to the main house and the honey house.

From North (Davis/Thomas/MD) and East (DC/Baltimore)

There are two ways you can get here.

219 or rt 48 -> 32S, through Davis/Thomas: Your GPS will likely get you as far as Thomas or Davis via rt. 219 or rt. 48 depending on which part of MD you’re coming from. Turn onto 32S, either at the end of 48 or when 219 hits Thomas. Follow this road through Canaan Valley and down into Dryfork. Once you pass through Dryfork, you’ll look for a right over a bridge. This is Snyder Rd, but there is no street sign, but across the street is a sign for Harman Mountain Campground. Turn onto it.

48 -> 55 -> 33 -> 32, through Seneca Rocks: If you are going to take the road through Seneca Rocks, you’ll wind up getting off of 48 at rt. 55. This is a great route, very beautiful and scenic, but if you do take this way, do NOT take Jordan Run Rd or any other road through Dolly Sods Wilderness.** To avoid that, stay straight on 55 until you hit 33W. Take that right and follow until Harman. In Harman, take a right at the fork for 32N. Drive 2.2ish miles and turn left. This is Snyder Rd, but there is no street sign, but across the street is a sign for Harman Mountain Campground. Turn there.

**Note, if you are going through Dolly Sods, be prepared with 4-wheel drive and DRIVE SLOWLY. The potholes are killer for any vehicle, especially one that’s not suited for off-roading. If this is your plan, however, you will wind up on Lanesville Rd or Bonner Mtn Road and will take a RIGHT onto 32S when that T’s. Follow the remaining directions from Davis. And don’t say we didn’t warn you!!
